The explosion changes the atmosphere of the enormous vault and the sea gets choppy. A terrific wave seeps the raft along the tunnel starting a long voyage. The sea gets hot. Willy Fog protects his diary and the dagger. It turns out to be an eruption of the volcano and they are finally launched out of the volcano. Some peasants approach and speak to them in Italian. They find that they are in Stromboli, Italy, and that their journey to the centre of the earth has come to an end. The group goes back to London and Willy Fog wins the bet.
