Back in France, the jealous Richelieu desperately wants D’Artacan out of the way. His three accomplices each have their own ideas as to how to get rid of him. Widimer wants to poison him; the more chivalrous Rochefort warns D’Artacan and challenges him to a duel; Milady tries to shoot D’Artacan during the duel, but misses and wounds Rochefort. At the royal audience to decide if D’Artacan should be made a Muskehound, the KING seeks the opinion of all present. Richelieu gives his vote to Rochefort, who joins those in favour. D’Artacan’s ambition is fulfilled.
